... craniosacral therapy (cst) in the philippines ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, osteopath, quezon city, manila)

Today is a special day for me, having graduated from Jim Green's Craniosacral Therapy (CST) Practical Integration Course.

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle touch therapy, developed by osteopathic physician John Upledger.  CST uses very soft touch which weighs less than the 2004 edition of the Philippine peso (5.35 grams).  What CST does is to improve the functioning of the central nervous system- by releasing any restrictions which impede the smooth flow of cerebrospinal fluid protecting your brain and spinal cord.

CST stimulates the body’s natural healing ability and is good for a wide range of medical and psychiatric conditions, such as:

* Migraine headaches
Chronic neck and back pain
Scoliosis
Central nervous system disorders
Autism
Learning Disabilities
Emotional Difficulties
Depression
Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Stress and Tension-related Problems
Fibromyalgia
Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

Jim Green and me.  It was an honor to be taught by
the Albert Einstein of Craniosacral Therapy.

We had the privilege of being taught by Mr. Jim Green who provided us with such high quality instruction and supervision.  Even before the Upledger Institute was established, Jim Green was already receiving training and supervision directly from Dr. John Upledger himself.  In fact, Jim was the first CST practitioner to become certified by Dr. Upledger in techniques level certification.  In the 1990s, Jim taught more CST classes than Dr. Upledger did.  He not only had the enviable pleasure of working at the clinic alongside Dr. Upledger, but Jim and Dr. Upledger would trade CST sessions on each other on a regular basis.  These days, Jim Green with his wife Regina travels all over Europe, America, and Asia teaching CST.

My classmates and I rewarded Jim Green with the healthiest
of Pinoy food:  bulalo, chicharon, sisig, etc.  Next time he comes
back, we'll force feed him on a diet of IUD, betamax, adidas,
helmet, walkman, tokneneng, and kwek-kwek.

Thank you Jim for your generosity in sharing with us what you know, and for wanting us to become the best CST practitioners possible.

... psychology of the chakras at ripples bookstore, robinsons galleria ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, quezon city, manila, philippines)

it was a wonderful time i had at ripples bookstore, robinsons galleria, having a discussion group on the topic "psychology of the chakras:  letting go of emotional baggage that block your energy centers."  the participants were all very enthusiastic as well as honest in asking questions and in sharing their life stories.  i felt as if i learned as much from them as they did from me.

in the 1950s, an eminent psychologist by the name of abraham maslow identified a hierarchy of basic human needs which he explained had to be satisfied before a person could experience a state of self-transcendence. for maslow, self-transcendence occurs after the following needs are met in sequential order:  physiological needs --> safety needs --> belongingness needs --> esteem needs --> self-actualization.

four thousand years before abraham maslow, the ancient people of india already had an equivalent hierarchy found in the chakra system of their yogic tradition.  their sequence goes as follows:  survival and self-preservation needs --> sexuality and self-gratification needs --> power and self-definition needs --> love and self-acceptance needs --> communication and self-expression needs -->  intuition and self-reflection needs --> spirituality and self-knowledge needs.  when the lower needs are unmet or are not fully satisfied, they become psychological obstacles in attaining the ultimate goal of the yogic system which is union with God.

maslow's hierarchy of needs and the chakra system are reminders for us that we need to deal with the physical, emotional, and mental baggage in the different aspects of our lives so that we can reach our fullest human and spiritual potential.

... touch psychotherapy, psychiatric acupuncture, and tarot card psychotherapy at the psychological association of the philippines PAP 2012 convention ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, quezon city, manila, philippines)

the last time i attended a convention of the psychological association of the philippines (PAP) was almost a decade ago, to do a workshop where i taught an arnis (filipino stick-fighting) routine which could be used for emotional growth and healing.  i remember that workshop to be attended by around a hundred participants who had fun practicing the arnis sequence on each other using rolled-up newspapers instead of actual wooden sticks.

this time, my purpose in attending the 3-day PAP convention at the cebu waterfront lahug hotel was to man the booth of life change recovery center (LCRC) and distribute flyers.  besides that, I did free 5-minute sessions for anyone interested in experiencing the dellosa approach to touch psychotherapy, psychiatric acupuncture, and tarot card psychotherapy.  lo and behold, the number of PAP participants who lined up for the 5-minute sessions totalled more than a hundred fifty-  almost 50 people per convention day.

the best experience i had was to be of service to my fellow psychologists who felt some degree of physical, emotional, and mental relaxation through their sessions with me.  the next best thing was meeting old friends and making new ones.

the moment i arrived back in quezon city, the first thing i did was to get a good massage and dine in a fancy restaurant.  now it was my turn to take good care of myself. and by the way, a big hello to all you friends i met at the convention!

... shakin' my booty in bali, indonesia ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, quezon city, manila, philippines)

my training in multi-cultural and indigenous forms of healing brought me to the island of bali, indonesia.  here, i was introduced to the ancient healing tradition of "shaking" at the ashram of Ratu Bagus, which translates into "good king."

ratu bagus

for the western-oriented mind, it is a strange practice that they do:  it is simply "shaking" your body for hours. it is believed that by actively shaking the body for prolonged periods, the conscious mind calms down, allowing the "Sacred Fire" within the person to ignite and heal deep emotional and even ancestral wounds.

gettin' down, shaking all over

the Sacred Fire is experienced as internal heat and sweating, spontaneous movement, and emotional releases through laughing or crying. they teach that you should persevere in shaking especially when you feel that you've reached your limit with the hope that a "breakthrough" ensues.  A "breakthrough" refers to a deeper level of emotional, physical, and energetic detoxification.

what a privilege to immerse myself in the healing practice of this exotic culture.

all that shaking got me hungry, so i sped off to the local market!
hmmm... i've never been to a market in the philippines that looked this aesthetic ...

bye bye ratu bagus!

peace out!

... reiki mawashi and dragon ball z energy blasts in the philippines ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist)

"reiki" means "universal energy." "mawashi" means "round, revolve, current, or game."

"reiki mawashi" is the reiki practice of gathering in a circle, joining hands, and then sending energy to flow within the circle. it is usually done as a formal exercise for generating collective healing energy for the participants.

for today's group however, we did "reiki mawashi" as a fun game for developing a sensitive feel for energetic flow.

sometimes, "reiki mawashi" can generate a lot of energy which makes the group participants sway rhythmically from side to side.

not knowing what to do with the excess energy built up, we simply decided to blast our photographer with dragon ball z (dbz) energy balls.

hi doctors sam padre, alex pacheco, ronald miranda,
and pocholo morales! it was nice exchanging
good energy with you! :D

... pepito manaloto undergoes life coaching, acupuncture, and touch therapy ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist)

.
as a psychiatrist, i believe that my clients deserve more than a medical prescription. medications are certainly important and oftentimes necessary, but clients can be helped through natural and holistic ways too. i guess that's what motivated gma's pepito manaloto to visit me. in his quest for psychological and physical health, he visited my clinic for a 3-in-1 session of life coaching, acupuncture, and touch therapy.
.
life coaching is about helping people deal with their common life problems, teaching them necessary attitudes and life skills to overcome the problem, and assisting them to attain their higher goals.
.
acupuncture is the ancient chinese practice of inserting needles into the body to correct any energy flow imbalances, thereby facilitating recovery from illnesses.
.
touch therapy is a body-mind approach which uses light touch and gentle body manouvers to make suppressed and hidden emotions, images, and memories surface to the client's conscious mind.
.
pepito manaloto was indeed a character, and it was a hilarious experience having him and his friends around!

... the gentle way of releasing muscle tightness ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, philippines)

.

gina lee is a kindred spirit in the field of holistic healing.
.
just to give you a rundown of the many hats she wears, she is a reiki master, acupuncturist, tuina bone-setter, bowen therapist, dorn method practitioner, pediatric massage therapist, deep nerve therapist, and craniosacral therapist. and just when you think that that's all to her list, she is also an "emm-tech" instructor, "emm-tech" standing for "easy muscle management technique."
.
emm-tech is a fast and effective release therapy used to (1) relieve muscle pain and discomfort, (2) increase flexibility, and (3) develop stability and balance. this technique involves the application of light pressure on the various points on the body, which causes the release of muscle groups.

the hilarious thing about emm-tech is that it frequently uses the middle finger to perform the "touches." in our class picture below, you'll see us unabashedly displaying the main "instrument" of emm-tech."
. being a holistic healer and body therapist myself, i've attended many training workshops on various healing modalities here and abroad. to date, i have to say that gina's training workshop is one of the most amazing workshops i've ever attended- amazing not only because of gina's light-hearted character and easy-going style of teaching, but also because emm-tech produces baffling results that are difficult to explain.
.
for instance, just through a series of light touches on my body, emm-tech was able to make my neck twist more freely from side-to-side, release my frozen shoulder, soften up my diaphragm, release my tight hamstrings and calf muscles, and make me stand up in a more balanced and stable manner. . i am therefore proud to have learned the essential skills of emm-tech and excited to help people through it.
.
here i am practicing emm-tech on leomil adriano, dedicated professor of physical therapy at the university of santo tomas. thanks leomil!
.
and here is greg ciocson, renowned feng shui expert and akashic record reader, practicing emm-tech on me. thanks greg!

... dr. jaime galvez tan and integrative medicine in the philippines ... (psychiatrist, psychologist, psychotherapist, counselor, life coach)

.

dr. jaime galvez-tan is undoubtedly a consummate healer and living legend in the field of health care. with such status, one would easily imagine doc jimmy high atop a lofty pedestal. but on the contrary, he makes himself accessible to everyone and generously shares the knowledge and wisdom he's gained through the years.

.

just to give you a brief backgrounder about doc jimmy, he is the former secretary of the department of health and and served as chief of staff of the DOH from 1992-1994. he is a professor at the u.p. college of medicine and is the country's foremost proponent of integrative medicine. in his clinical practice, he integrates western medicine with traditional chinese medicine (tcm), indigenous filipino healing practices, and other established healing systems.
.

doc jimmy is also a prolific writer as he has authored at least 40 published papers on health and medicine. he has also co-written 6 books, the latest ones being "hilot: the filipino traditional massage (2006)" and "medicinal fruits and vegetables (2008)." he travels intensively around the world in his capacity as consultant to WHO, UNICEF, USAID, and many other organizations.
.

doc jimmy is not one to keep his knowledge and wisdom to himself. in his attempt to widen his reach in helping people, he generously and tirelessly trains people to become holistic healers themselves.
.

what inspires me most about dr. jaime galvez tan is his love for his students, his patients, and underprivileged people. after all, how can he not be well acquainted with the plight of the poor? he has done many long years of community work in the far-flung rural areas of the philippines which do not have any doctors. doc jimmy's compassion is contagious and we, his student healers, hope to continue his advocacies and noble work.
.

here i am listening intently and learning all i can from doc jimmy's acupuncture and integrative medicine class.

... healing body and mind through bodytalk ... (philippines, life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist)

.
woohooo! today i became a certified "bodytalk access technician!" what that means is that i've learned the foundational concepts and techniques of bodytalk, an energy healing system which involves the tapping of certain body parts, to bring healing to both body and mind. It can lower blood pressure, relieve pain, stress, anxiety, and depression, heal migraine among other things.
.
the training was conducted by canadian trainer dorothy friesen, affectionately called by the filipino nickname 'doray,' who has taught bodytalk to hundreds of filipinos. not only did i get trained by her, but i had the privilege of experiencing her healing energy.
.
i also got to meet some luminaries such as madame sonia roco, 'inang guro,' who continues the legacy of the late senator raul roco (who could have been the best president the philippines ever had). also, i met ma'am marilen abesamis, who represents the philippines in the international bodytalk association.
.
my groupmates- al, agnes, tom- and i found our training very informative and engaging. the training ended on a high note with all of us excited to apply this healing modality to improve the lives of the people we help.
.
in case you're interested in a session or training, you can call 384-1885 or 0919-925-2034.
