... gma: kapuso mo, jessica soho presents "the art of doodling" ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, osteopath, quezon city, manila, philippines)

jessica soho sent jacqueline sto. domingo to interview me for segment on the art of doodling.

so what is a doodle anyway? everyone, at one time or another has done it.  it's the little drawings which we unmindfully and repeatedly do when we're bored to death and have a piece of paper and pen at hand.  in fact, our school notebooks might have more doodles than notes in it.  doodling is probably a way we keep ourselves awake in class when the teacher lulls us to sleep with uninteresting lectures.

do you ever wonder what your doodles mean?  doodle expert michael watts shares his interpretations:

- circles are doodled by people who are sincere, kind-hearted, and friendly individuals who are faithful in relationships.

- eyes are doodled by people who are self-centered egocentric lovers.

- flowers/ hearts are doodled by people who have a childlike and innocent attitude to love, sex, and relationships, but they may also show an immature side.

- names are doodled by people who are concerned about what they can get out of a relationship rather than tuning in to the needs of their partners.

- spirals are doodled by people who have deep emotional insecurity in their personality.

- snakes are a classic phallic symbol and are doodled by people who are obsessed with sex and the male organ.

- stairs/ steps are doodled by people who view sex with endless fascination and mystery and have a desire to explore it to the fullest.

- trees are drawn by people who are friendly, warm-hearted, and affectionate.

- triangles are drawn by people with strong sexual appetites that have insufficient outlet.

as a disclaimer, i have to say that i don't necessarily believe in the interpretations above.  just like my take on dreams, the meaning of the doodle is best interpreted by the doodler himself.

doodle therapy? sweet!

... color therapy (chromotherapy) and color psychology in the philippines ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist)

matang lawin ("hawk eye") is a science-environmental tv show aired on abs-cbn and hosted by kim atienza. today, they interviewed me about color therapy.

color therapy, also known as chromotherapy is one of the modalities i use as an art therapist and holistic healer. color therapy is usually applied through

(1) the use of colored lenses on eyeglasses,
(2) exposure to lights of different colors, and
(3) visualization/mental imagery exercises.

as a certain color enters the eyes, it affects the hypothalamus, pineal gland, and pituitary gland, all of which govern and regulate hormonal production, which in turn creates cellular changes.

red for instance has been found to increase melatonin production at night by 70% and can also help people with autism. blue has the potential to help people with dyslexia (learning disorders) and dyskinesia (movement disorders).

as for the psychology of color, you can visit the very first post on my blog:

life is good and so i wish to leave you this quote by danny kaye:

life is a great big canvas... and you should throw ALL the paint you can on it!

... fun and humor in psychotherapy ... (life coach, counselor, psychotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, philippines)

.
many people have the mistaken notion that psychotherapy is a dark, gloomy, or heart-wrenching experience meant only for the psychologically frail or mentally ill.
.
modern psychotherapists however don't only deal with life problems, they also help people live life fully, joyfully, and meaningfully. among the modalities used by modern shrinks are the creative and expressive psychotherapies such as dance/ movement therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, poetry therapy, and sound/ music therapy.
.
as my young friends from holy angel university, pampagga discover, psychotherapy can change people's lives through fun, humor, and laughter.
.
be amazed by the facial transformations of abby, airee, camille, gretch, irma, joy, kim, krisan, patrick, and thea. some of them actually look like "taong grasa," don't they? i just hope that none of them become make-up artists in the future.
